Sampler Day — cartooning and creativity
January 11, 2012Sat., Jan 14 is Sampler Day at Ridgeville Park District. I’ll be on hand 1-1.30pm sampling my cartoon class and signing people up for Introduction to Cartoon Storytelling! Stop by: 908 Seward Street, Evanston, Illinois. (The course is for adults, but kids and teens are welcomed.)

Cultural Impact Conference and Old School New School
January 9, 2012The Cultural Impact Conference 2012 will be taking place in Chicago on Friday, January 27.
I will be speaking on the role risk and security play in an artist’s creative development. (Session 3.) If you’re going to be in Chicago, please plan to attend. The day will be filled with some amazing sessions on nurturing and developing creativity.
The Digital Dilemma
January 7, 2012Renowned cinematographer, and Old School New School subject, John Bailey spoke strongly last year on the use of digital technology in the cinema. He references an alarming report published by The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences called The Digital Dilemma.
Some very strong points made as to the dangers and weaknesses of the digital medium’s ability to preserve our cinema heritage.

Hans Fallada
January 4, 2012A fascinating 30-minute look at the life of troubled writer Hans Fallada. Fallada was an alcoholic, morphine addict, prone to depression, was in and out of sanitariums and relationships, and attempted suicide twice. He was declared an “undesirable author,” yet pursued his craft despite the rejection.
He was the quintessential suffering artist whose creativity was informed by his volatile life.
